Dear colleagues,
In cooperation with the Biblioteca Alexandrina in Alexandria , Egypt , the
European DDC Users? Group (EDUG) is organizing its annual meeting and would
like to invite you to the symposium
Bridging the class(ification) divide: the new DDC languages and retrieval
possibilities
27 April 2010, 9:30 a.m. ? 4:00 p.m.
Biblioteca Alexandrina
Alexandria, Egypt
Over the past ten years, extensive translation projects have been completed in
Europe to produce the French, Italian and German editions of DDC21 and DDC22.
Experience has shown that the translation and adaptation of the DDC in the
European context can be difficult. Recent work on the Arabic translation has
also exposed some problems. EDUG works in partnership with OCLC to foster
cooperation in the development of DDC translations and resolve associated
issues for mutual benefit.
The presentations of the symposium will focus on the use(s) of Dewey in an
international and multilingual context. Translation and cooperation from
various points of view will be highlighted as well as technical issues and the
development of the DDC as a tool for subject information retrieval.
You will find the programme under
http://www.bibalex.org/libraries/newsimages/27.pdf .
Please register by 10 April 2010 under
