==============================
Dear colleagues,
we are happy to invite you to the IFLA Pre-Conference "Raising a Nation of
Readers: Libraries as Partners in National Reading Projects and Programmes".
The Pre-Conference promoted by IFLA Literacy and Reading Section and Libraries
for Children & Young Adults Section, will be held in Rome Goethe Institut
Italien Auditorium from 19 to 20 August 2009.
Reading and networking: these are the keywords of IFLA PreConference "Raising a
Nation of Readers: Libraries as Partners in National Reading Projects and
Programmes".
Speakers from various backgrounds will offer their scientific and professional
contributions about the common theme of promoting and enhancing the inclination
to read and the active role of Libraries in local , national and international
cooperation.
Presentations and discussions about different strategies, best practices and
main findings from research on reading aim at involving not only the librarians
in the issue of reading as an emergency in contemporary digital societies.
National Reading Campaigns focus not only on readers but try to include and be
attractive for non-readers as well. The challenge in this inclusion will be
highlighted from different points of view.
These same principles have been inspiring for ten years the Italian national
project "Nati per leggere" (i.e., Born to Read), which is based on cooperation
among different professional and social contexts: libraries, paediatrics,
schools, publishers and booksellers, local and national cultural events.
Hoping that this meeting will help development of cooperations in order to
raise active readers societies, we wait for you in Rome.
