The European Library (TEL) Newsletter
June 2003
News about the project "The European Library (TEL) - The Gate to Europe's
Knowledge" (www.europeanlibrary.org)
The report on the second The European Library publisher workshop on the
Deposit of and access to digital publications is now available!
As global networks grow in significance it is getting more important to
share knowledge and standards. By combining the resources of some of
Europe's national libraries the idea of a single European Library has moved
a step closer to becoming a reality. The European Library (TEL), a 30-month
co-operative project of Key Action 3
<http://www.cordis.lu/ist/ka3/digicult/home.html> of the Information Society
Technologies (IST) <http://www.cordis.lu/ist/> research programme will
provide the groundwork on which to build a pan-European service.
Workpackage 1 of the TEL project which focuses on relations between national
libraries and publishers, held a workshop at the Hotel Le Royal in
Luxembourg on May 8-9, 2003, on the occasion of the Annual Meeting of the
Federation of European Publishers (FEP). In this special workshop "Deposit
of and access to digital publications" representatives of workpackage 1 gave
an introduction to TEL with special emphasis on the draft business plan and
presented their Agenda for Harmonisation to be discussed by the
representatives of FEP attending this workshop.
The workshop report is now available on the project website
www.europeanlibrary.org <http://www.europeanlibrary.org>, there Results ->
