Submissions wanted for __Journal of Internet Cataloging__ theme issue.

Topic: Cataloging Educational Resources in the Digital Environment.

The tremendous growth of the Internet, particularly the World Wide Web,
has had a critical impact on the types of resources available in K-12,
secondary, adult, and other distinct educational communities.
Traditional resources (e.g., text, image, audio and video), fully
developed lesson plans, and educational standards are examples of the
types of resources that can now be easily shared among related
educational communities. The digital environment has also given rise to
the development of new creations, such as interactive-multimedia
educational resources. Catalogers, educational experts, and other
information professionals have re-evaluated traditional cataloging
practices and developed new cataloging and organizational schemes, where
necessary, so that the growing digital world of educational resources can
be adequately organized, cataloged, and accessed.

This special issue of the Journal of Internet Cataloging will provide a
forum for cataloging and metadata developments involving educational
resources in the digital environment.

Contributions should document how the growth of the digital environment
has impacted practices and procedures for cataloging educational
resources. Research or informative articles covering specific
cataloging/metadata projects, cataloging standards, cataloging
development and implementation issues, cataloging staff training issues,
and cataloging tools are desired. Related topics are also welcome.

Interested contributors should submit a 250 word abstract to Jane
Greenberg, School of Information Science, University of Pittsburgh at:

janeg _at__ sis.pitt.edu

by October 31. Authors will be notified by Nov. 10, 1998.
