Dear Colleagues,

A quick post to alert you to a quantitative study recently added to
the Web.

Joan G. Packer, Head of Reference and I presented a paper at
February's Computers in Libraries conference concerning the average
number of relevant hits from the first ten retrieved that five typical
search engines/ directories yielded. That paper will appear in an
augmented form in June's _Computers in Libraries_. Meanwhile, a table
which is too lengthy to insert in the article can be perused at

http://neal.ctstateu.edu:2001/htdocs/websearch.html

It details the search query topics and the yield for each engine
investigated.

Thank you,
