Bern University Library serves faculty, students and staff of Bern University
as well as the general public. It has a staff of 250 at its sites in Bern, and
holds a collection of over 4 million books, electronic resources, journals and
newspapers and provides access to over 100‘000 e-journals.
The Research Support Service was created in 2017 and it is in a steady
development phase. We offer literature search and academic writing courses and
support for researchers, clinicians and students from the Medical and
Dentistry faculties. To support and grow the existing team, the Research
Support Service is searching for an:
Information specialist / Research Support Librarian (Medicine) 80-100%
Contract: 2 years contract with the intention to make the position permanent.
Starting as soon as possible.
Place: Universität Bern, Fachbereichsbibliothek Bühlplatz, Baltzerstrasse 4,
3012 Bern Switzerland
Application: Review of applications will begin on February 15th 2018, and
continue until the position is filled.
Duties and responsibilities:
· Planning and delivery of introductory/advanced courses about systematic
literature searching and evidence based medicine for various target groups
(optional and compulsory courses for the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry
and courses for graduate school students).
· One-on-one support for researchers and master students (master and
dissertation theses, peer-reviewed publications and grants).
· Development of self-paced study materials.
· Mediated literature searches for demanding research projects (systematic
reviews, meta-analyses, HTAs).
Qualifications and skills:
· Demonstrable experience in systematic literature searching. You have
supported systematic review search strategies and/or have co-authored several
systematic reviews published in peer-review journals (with or without
meta-analysis).
· Teaching aptitude and experience.
· Flexible and life-long learner.
· Ability to work cooperatively in a team, as well as independently.
· Excellent organizational skills, attention to record keeping, detail and
quality.
· You are client and objective oriented and have some negotiation skills.
· Very good knowledge of English. Proficiency in German is not mandatory
but would be an asset.
· Good networker with international outlook
· Either a degree/postgraduate qualification in Library and Information
Science (or professional experience in academic library or similar institution)
or: a degree/postgraduate qualification in the field of Medicine/Life Sciences.
We are offering an interesting position with diverse activities in a committed
and growing team, contributing to the expansion of medical library services
(the Medical Faculty increases student admissions by 50% to 320 p/a from 2018).
We offer training in systematic literature searching and the possibility to
attend to international and national conferences and workshops.
We are looking to have the successful candidate in place as soon as possible.
The salary of the position is based on the salary scale of the canton of Bern.
