- Subject: [InetBib] Call for posters for the IFLA Satellite Meeting "Information Literacy and its impact on Women" 11-12 August 2011
World Library and Information Congress: 77th IFLA General Conference and
Assembly - San Juan, Puerto Rico
Call for posters for the Satellite Meeting "Information Literacy and its
impact on Women"
organised by IFLA Information Literacy Section & IFLA Women, Information
and Libraries Special Interest Group, in partnership with Turabo University
and Universidad Metropolitana del Sistema Universitario Ana G. Mendez,
Puerto Rico.
IFLA Women, Information and Libraries Special Interest Group and IFLA
Information Literacy Section invite colleagues to submit proposals for
posters to be exhibited at their two-day Satellite Conference in San Juan,
Puerto Rico, 11th and 12th August 2011.
Themes and focus:
The broad focus of this satellite meeting is information literacy (IL) and
its impact, especially on women. We are interested in library and
information professionals working on information literacy in all sectors,
but in particular in public libraries and local community centres. At the
same time we want to know about research projects on the impact this work
has on women in local communities and the society as a whole. Examples of
best practices, success stories and lessons learned are very welcome.
The organisers are particularly interested in receiving proposals about:
- Information Literacy and its impact on women in different areas (health
information programmes, programmes for migrant workers and asylum seekers,
etc)
- Information Literacy projects and its impact on local communities, with
emphasis on projects aimed at women
- Community engagement and Information Literacy
- Information Literacy training or projects undertaken solely by women
- Professional development of librarians working in the field of
Information Literacy
- New ways of learning Information Literacy techniques
The organisers especially welcome first-time presenters at international
conferences and information workers new to the profession.
Submission guidelines and review:
Proposals must be submitted by email to poster.wilsig2011@xxxxxxxxx
including:
- Title of the poster
- Not more than 300 words summarising the content of the poster
- Speaker's name, professional affiliation, postal address, email address
and brief biographical note
Conference posters can be made in English or Spanish.
Poster sessions are a combination of content and appearance. The content
must be interesting, professional, and appealing to a broad audience. The
appearance of the posters should be attractive, with a combination of
graphics, photographs, and text. Those who present a poster generally
provide handouts, printed materials, leaflets or pamphlets for
distribution. It is important to bring reasonable quantities of handouts,
as free copy facilities are not provided by the satellite meeting
organisers.
Proposals will be reviewed by a panel chaired by the Women, Information and
Libraries Special Interest Group Convenor.
Deadlines:
1st July 2011: Submission of abstracts
9th July 2011: Notification of acceptance
Important note:
All expenses, including registration for the conference, travel,
accommodation etc., are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No
financial support can be provided by IFLA, but a special invitation can be
issued to authors/presenters if that is required.
