VACANCY : Development Team Manager
Founded in 2007 by the European Commission, Europeana is well on the way
to becoming a leader in the field of semantic web implementation. Within
a challenging multi-national and multi-lingual data and user environment
Europeana.eu is a fast growing web portal connecting Europe's
distributed cultural heritage.
As a Development Team Manager you will manage the Europeana development
team daily. They are responsible for the technical development and
maintenance of the Europeana service. This includes the website, the
back end ingestion processes and the applications for the distribution
of content to other sites.
Europeana's home base is located in the centre of the Hague, hosted
within the Dutch Royal Library (Koninklijke Bibliotheek). We are an
international, enthusiastic, friendly and motivated team of 40
representing more than 15 nationalities.
The role:
- As the Development Team Manager you will manage a team of 4 full
time developers, a technical planner and a small number of freelance
developers,
- You will manage the development process, keeping the balance
between new development, integration of externally developed components
and maintenance to achieve the business designated requirements of
Europeana,
- You will work with external development groups and other
European projects, setting up and maintaining delivery quality,
integration guidelines and acceptance criteria,
- You will evaluate and improve the design, development and
testing processes in Europeana to create, improve and maintain processes
and communicate and get adherence to processes within the development
team,
- You will evaluate and guard the Europeana system architecture
and coding guidelines by understanding, documenting and maintaining the
system architecture for in and out of house use.
Required skills and experience:
- Proven management (3 to 5 years) of a software development team,
- Ability to lead a team through coaching, motivating transparency
and driving productivity,
- Experience of the full development lifecycle including
requirements gathering, design, development, testing, release and
support,
- Experience in setting up and optimising system architectures
(HW/SW),
- Hands-on software development experience, preferably in a Java
environment,
- Thorough understanding of modern software development
methodologies, such as Agile, SCRUM,
- Experience in Open Source software development,
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
