        Dear all, 

        as some of you may already know, I have planned and am currently
undertaking a bike tour leading me from my home town in the Black Forest to the
Yellow Sea in China. This has been a plan long in the making and since I am
transitioning between finishing my Ph.D. and starting a new job in January 2009,
this seemed like the perfect time to do it. 

        Originally conceived to start in February, I had to delay my departure
for a few weeks as I was down with a viral infection. Things were back to normal
in late March and since then I have made my way to Montenegro. I meant to send
this message right after my departure, but wasn't sure how my body would hold up
after the infection. Seems that I am doing fine so far though. 

        I wanted to make you aware of the project's website:

        You can follow the progress of the tour on the website and in order to
make things even easier for you, you can subscribe to the newsletter (in English
and German, the English one being more detailed). This way, you find the new
reports in your inbox instead of having to go to the website to check up on
where I am and what's going on during the trip. Just sign up at

website is designed to be as interactive as possible and you can leave comments
on the blog, the picture site or send me an email

        Furthermore, Cycling Without Borders is connected to charity, namely
through supporting two projects and of course any contributions are greatly
appreciated. One project is carried out by the German NGO Welthungerhilfe
(German Agro Action) and benefits a small village in Tadjikistan, which I will
visit on the way and report on the progress. A second project concerns my
exchange organization Youth for Understanding and is designed to enable a
student from Georgia to spend a year in Germany. Fore more details go to the
"Donate" portion of the website. 

        You may now wonder whether there is anything that you can do. There are
a couple of things. I am heading through a good number of countries I have never
been to. Maybe you have or maybe your sister-in-law's cousin has been. Or you
have any other information that you find useful. Please pass it on. Whether it
is someone you know, a place I should visit, a food I should try or some music I
shouldn't miss out on. Any hints and any advice is welcome. 

        The countries I am planning to visit from now on are the following:
Albania, Macedonia, Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iran,
Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and China. 

        Apart from that, visit the website, send me a message and let me know
what you think about anything connected to the trip or otherwise.

        Hallo, 

        wie einige von Euch/Ihnen vielleicht schon wissen bin ich derzeit mit
dem Rad von Deutschland nach China unterwegs. Die Reise ist schon etwas länger
geplant und da ich im Januar 2009 eine Stelle antreten werde, war es nun an der
Zeit den Plan in die Tat umzusetzen. 

        Mit dieser Nachricht will ich auf zwei Dinge aufmerksam machen. 

        1. Die Webseite: www.grenzenlosradeln.de 

        Man kann die Tour auf der Webseite www.grenzenlosradeln.de verfolgen. Um
es noch einfacher zu machen gibt es einen Newsletter, für den man sich ebenfalls
auf der Seite eintragen kann. Diesen gibt es auf englisch und deutsch (der
englische ist ausführlicher). Dadurch kommen die Neuigkeiten als email in die
Inbox und man muss nicht ständig auf der Webseite nachsehen. Die Webseite ist so
interaktiv wie möglich gestaltet, man kann auf ihr Kommentare hinterlassen oder
mir auch einfach eine email schreiben (info@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx). 

        2. Spendenaktion 

        Grenzenlos Radeln untestützt zwei Projekte. Spenden können einereits an
die Welthungerhilfe für ein Dorf in Tadschikistan getätigt werden. Ich werde das
Dorf Veshab selbst besuchen und berichten, wofür die Spenden konkret eingesetzt
werden.

        Eine weitere Möglichkeit zu spenden ist darauf angelegt, einem Schüler
aus Georgien ein Jahr in Deutschland mit meiner Austauschorganisation Youth for
Understanding zu ermöglichen. 

        Weitere Details gibt es auf der Webseite unter Spendenaktion. Spenden
sind steuerlich abzugsfähig. 

        Die eine oder der andere mag sich jetzt vielleicht wundern, ob sie oder
er mir helfen kann. Es gibt da einige Möglichkeiten. Ich fahre durch viele
Länder, die ich nicht kenne. Vielleicht sind Kenntnisse vorhanden oder aber der
Bruder der Schwägerin war schon mal dort. Jegliche Informationen sind
willkommen, Tipps zu Orten und Personen, persönliche Kontake oder lokale
Besonderheiten. 

        Ab jetzt werde ich durch folgende Länder reisen: Albanien, Mazedonien,
Griechenland, Türkei, Georgien, Armenien, Aserbaidschan, Iran, Turkmenistan,
Usbekistan, Tadschikistan, Kirgisien und China.  

        Zu guter Letzt hoffe ich, dass es Ihnen/Dir gut geht.
