Library and Documentation Specialist
(full time)


The UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre for
Technical and Vocational Education and Training
acts as part of the
United Nations mandate to promote peace, justice
and poverty alleviation as well as of UNESCO?s
focus on ?Education for
All?. It particularly assists Member States to
develop policies and practices in the field of
technical and vocational education
and training as well as contributes to increase
opportunities for productive work, personal
empowerment and socio-economic
development.

Its premises are located in the former
Parliamentary Building (?Langer Eugen?) on the
banks of the Rhine River in Bonn,
Germany.

The present team of 7 staff members is expected
to expand to about 20 during the next few years.
It should be noted, that
English is being used as the principal working
language.

One of the Centre?s immediate goals is to
strengthen the current capacity of its library
and expand its documentation services.
For this reason it would like to invite
qualified and enthusiastic candidates to submit
their applications for the above
mentioned post.

Main Duties and
Responsibilities
? Developing further the in-house library and
documentation system;
? Implementing an electronic database for all
library materials;
? Cataloguing and indexing of over 2000 printed
and digital materials;
? Carrying out ongoing development of library
and documentation services;
? Viewing incoming documents with respect to
their relevance for current tasks of
the Centre;
? Responding to information and documentation
requests;
? Cooperating with other specialized information
and documentation services.

Qualifications
and experience
required
? Degree in Library and Information Science or
corresponding competencies;
? Several years of experience in organizing a
specialized library collection;
? Skills in information and communication
technologies including database
management and documentation software;
? Experience in providing information services
via the Internet;
? Very good command of written and spoken
English; good working knowledge of
at least one other official language of the
United Nations (e.g. French, Spanish,
Chinese etc.) would be an asset;
? Able to undertake independent, self-directed
work;
? Ability to operate within an international
team.

The salary will be in accordance with local
public service rules, i.e. BAT, and will be
exempt from local taxation.

are particularly encouraged to apply.
