More Google

Liebe LeserInnen von Inetbib, liebe Google-Enthusiasten,
in ResearchBuzz News: August 9 - August 15, 2001

finden sich einige interessante News zu Google, die auch PDF betreffen
(ob die Braunschweiger Dokumente wieder zugaenglich sind, habe ich damit
allerdings nicht geprueft):

Google Goes Around the World

Google has released 15 new country and language-specific search engines.
They are as follows:

google.com.br -- Brazil
google.vg -- Virgin Islands
google.bi -- Burundi
google.cc -- Cocos Islands
google.li -- Lichtenstein
google.lt -- Lithuania
google.mw -- Malawi
google.fm -- Micronesia
google.ms -- Montserrat
google.com.nf -- Norfolk Island
google.rw -- Rwanda
google.sh -- St. Helena
google.cd -- Democratic Republic of Congo
google.co.gg -- Channel Islands/Guernsey
google.co.je -- Channel Islands/Jersey

The different search engines have different language choices depending on
the country. I think this is the most interesting set of countries I have
ever seen.

Meanwhile -- Another Google Special Syntax

Here's another special syntax for Google I found this weekend. To their
credit they DO document it; you just have to poke around a little to find
the mention.
The syntax is filetype. You use it like this:
filetype: (whatever) So if you were looking for tax information for a
certain type of tax, but wanted to avoid PDF tax forms, you could create a
query like so:
+941 +quarterly +taxes -filetype:pdf

This isn't a great query (it still gives you almost 17,800 results) but it
does cut your result count almost in half compared to the same query
without -filetype:pdf.

That was Google's example. Here's MY example. If you're looking for
information on songs, but keep running head-on into WinAmp play lists, use
the modification -filetype:txt to get rid of them. Or, say you WANT to see
what people are putting on the playlists. You want to see what people who
listen to Destiny's Child also listen to. You could use this query:
"destiny's child" playlist +filetype:txt Check it out.

Daneben wird auf ein weiteres interessantes Interview, diesmal mit Craig
Silverstein, ("Google's director of technology") hingewiesen. Die Zahlen,
die Frau Henzinger zuletzt verlautbart hatte (1,3 Mio. Seiten im eigenen
Index, Update alle 28 Tage) scheinen jetzt bereits allgemein akzeptierter
