Liebe KollegInnen,
die folgende mitteilung aus finnland gebe ich gerne an sie weiter:
> The relatively small Teuva public library provides a HP Scanjet 5p scanner
> for public use. The service has proved to be useful and popular.
> In Turku Regional Central Library the public can use a HP Scanjet 6100
> scanner which is attached to the public Internet terminal. The scanner
> itself is considered easy to use. The only complaints have been about the
> long waiting list (2 weeks, on average). There is a time limit of 1 hour per
> user in a 5-day-period. Those who make use of the scanner don't normally
> need help (or don't want to bother the librarians with questions ?). In the
> last 6 months, only one middle-aged man has needed help in scanning a photo.
> Aura public library have also offered a scanner for public use since Jan
> 1997. The response has been positive and enthusiastic. The patrons scan
> photos and web graphics, sometimes with the help of the staff. Use of the
> scanner requires a booking in advance.
> In Cable Book Library in Helsinki, the patrons can use a HP ScanJet IIcx/T
> scanner for up to two hours at a time. The staff are always willing to help
> the patrons but after initial introduction few patrons have needed help.
> Some of the patrons use the scanner for web graphics on their own homepage,
> others are genealogists who scan photos, some produce e.g. membership
> bulletins, though the staff don't know what most people use the scanner for
> as, obviously, this is not asked. There have been relatively few technical
> problems with the scanner and the patrons are pleased with the service. Two
> other branches in Helsinki also provide public use scanners, one of these is
> for the use of children.
> In all these libraries use of the scanner is provided free-of-charge. There
> is a charge for printing on paper, though, but it's usually nominal.
